Stephen Willats’ major essay The Artist as an Instigator of Changes in Social Cognition and Behaviour will be re-issued for the first time in September 2010 by Occasional Papers. Originally published in 1973 by Gallery House Press London – while Willats was Director of the Centre of Behavioural Art there – and long out of print, the theoretical paper combines rigorous analyses of social forms of artistic production as well as descriptions of a number of projects by the artist. This new edition features the original text, accompanied by archival images and a specially written introduction by Willats.
